New Unit Project Adventure and Speed Stacking (March 12 - April 13)

Today we started a new unit, Project Adventure and Speed Stacking. Students are required to wear their full PE uniform and running shoes for this unit. A reminder that no jewellery or watches are to be worn during PE classes. Long hair must be tied up.

Project Adventure centres around cooperative skills, teamwork and problem-solving, in addition to strength building through climbing and swinging. Students work together to solve a variety of physical challenges of varying degrees of difficulty, and achieve a common goal. Students are challenged to work outside of their comfort zone and be risk-takers, therefore expanding their repertoire of skills and abilities. Using the gym like an aerial playground, students will master climbing and swinging techniques and jumping and landing safely and accurately.
Students will learn and practice the full Speed Stacking sequence. This activity requires a great deal of cross-brain involvement and is extremely helpful with fine motor patterns and sequencing. With continued practice, students will eventually increase their speed and accuracy with the cups, strengthening the pathways in the brain that are also needed in math ability. The goal of this unit is for students to be able to perform the sequence, with reasonable speed and accuracy on a consistent basis.
If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact your child’s PE teacher.
