New Year, New Unit

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!
For the next 4 weeks students will focus on a variety of fitness games that encourage regular and fun physical activity. They will also learn to pace themselves to be able to jog a prescribed distance comfortably without walking. (K-2 half mile, 3-6 - 1 mile). The Track section of the unit is an introduction to some track and field events such as relays, high jump, long jump and discus.

NB: Please note that all students are required to wear the CAC PE uniform for every PE lesson, either the new red shirts (available at the spirit store), or the old PE uniform. If the weather is cold you can wear jogging pants and a sweatshirt, with the PE uniform underneath.

Unit 3 begins

Striking and Fielding (Nov 5 - Dec 14)

Students will engage in a variety of striking and fielding games and activities that teach and enhance throwing and catching skills, as well as kicking, striking, ball or object control and manipulation skills.
Students may be outside on field for the next 6 weeks, so please dress them in layers that they can be removed if required. Students get very hot once they have warmed up in PE and need to be able to remove layers easily. Please also remember to send them to PE with a water bottle.

PE Uniform and Winter Wear

Our new PE uniform has arrived at the Spirit Store and is ready for purchase. We hope to see all students wearing the new uniform in PE classes in the near future. For this year the students can also wear PE uniforms from past years.

Winter wear:

As the temperature begins to get cooler the students can come to PE classes with their uniforms on and they can wear a sweater, which can be their own or a CAC one, and track pants. As a reminder we expect students to come to PE classes wearing the PE uniform, sneakers & socks, no jewelry and their hair up if necessary.

If you have any questions please email us or stop by at anytime.

Swimming Uniform Reminder

Dear parents,

We are now into our second week of the swimming unit for the Elementary School. Most students have been really good at being prepared for their swimming lesson but there are a few students that are coming to class with no swimming suit or most commonly no goggles.

Could you please ensure that your child is fully prepared for swimming by making sure that they come to school with the following:

PE uniform - Swimming

For swimming each child should have, in a separate swim bag:
  • An appropriate swimsuit
  • OWN pair of properly fitted goggled (not shared with siblings)
  • Suitably sized towel
  • Long hair tied back off the face or a swim cap (girls and boys)
  • No jewelry, including rubber and string bands and watches
  • Easy to take on and off clothes and shoes (crocs are ideal)

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your support,

Welcome to ESPE 2017/18

Hello from the ES Physical Education team. We are very excited to be joining CAC and look forward to a year of sport with all the children in the elementary school.

PE Program
Our Physical Education program at CAC is a standards based program, covering a wide range of sports. We follow the school's mission to learn, explore and have fun within every PE unit. The goal of the department is to provide opportunities for every child to take part in sport, to a level of competition that challenges them.  Within each unit pupils will work to develop their agility, balance and coordination, as well as challenging them to create movement patterns and dances, demonstrate tactical awareness in game situations and gain a good understanding of health and healthy living.

PE Timetable
All students in Kindergarten - Grade 5 (K-5) have PE twice a week, either in the pool, the gym or out on the field/court. They will have 1 x 60 minute class and 1 x 30 minute class each week.
Our first units for K-5 students are Swimming for the 1 hour class and Gross Motor Skills (in the ES Hall) for the 30 minute class. These units run from August 16th until September 21st 2017.

NB: This year we will start swimming from Day 1.

New Unit Project Adventure and Speed Stacking (March 12 - April 13)

Today we started a new unit, Project Adventure and Speed Stacking. Students are required to wear their full PE uniform and running shoes for this unit. A reminder that no jewellery or watches are to be worn during PE classes. Long hair must be tied up.

Project Adventure centres around cooperative skills, teamwork and problem-solving, in addition to strength building through climbing and swinging. Students work together to solve a variety of physical challenges of varying degrees of difficulty, and achieve a common goal. Students are challenged to work outside of their comfort zone and be risk-takers, therefore expanding their repertoire of skills and abilities. Using the gym like an aerial playground, students will master climbing and swinging techniques and jumping and landing safely and accurately.
Students will learn and practice the full Speed Stacking sequence. This activity requires a great deal of cross-brain involvement and is extremely helpful with fine motor patterns and sequencing. With continued practice, students will eventually increase their speed and accuracy with the cups, strengthening the pathways in the brain that are also needed in math ability. The goal of this unit is for students to be able to perform the sequence, with reasonable speed and accuracy on a consistent basis.
If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact your child’s PE teacher.

Students in Grades 3-5 will be assessed on their demonstration of a variety of tumbling, movement, balance and vaulting/jumping skills at a level appropriate to the grade level. During this unit students will need to remove their shoes so please send your child to school in their full PE uniform with easy to take on and off shoes.
